canvas painting series
The works took as their subject specific horological information — in layman’s terms, the days of the year. I considered this an ideal foundation for a series of non-figurative paintings, since numbers themselves are inherently abstract symbols: they stand in for quantities, for durations, for the invisible architecture of what we call time.
By translating these numeric designations into painterly form, I wanted to test whether a sense of meaning or emotional resonance could still be conveyed, even when stripped of recognisable imagery or narrative cues. Could the essence of “a day” be felt through pure abstraction — through colour, texture, and rhythm alone?
