The booth was produced for the internationally celebrated skateboarding charity, for their prescence at a major alternative culture & actions sports trade fair at London’s Olympia.
The brief was simple, I should design and build an eye-catching booth to display product and key information on a maximum budget of €200.
Taking inspiration from the 3rd world locations serviced by the charities’ skateboard schools (Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa, respectively) I put together a scheme that utilised reclaimed materials and found objects to create a little of the flair of a stand in a local bazaar. The result was immediate stand-out in a show dominated by the usual pop-up system stands used by international action sports brands. A pleasing element was our use of electronic candles to – a finishing touch which created a very special, intimate, atmosphere.

For an engagement activity, I created a cut-out model skateboard for a social media guerilla arts project. Visitors to the booth could take away a model to make at home and then leave in bars, restaurants, skateparks, shops etc as an awareness piece. The project had an extra fundraising element as users were also invited to submit customisations of the model to Twitter & Instagram for a small donation.
I was delighted when the initiative found unexpected life as a teaching aid in a school in Burma – we were sent pictures of kids with their customised versions completely out of the blue.
